Will LinkedIn's new stay-at-home job title make a difference to your chances of gaining employment?

LinkedIn has announced several new features to rolled out over the coming weeks, which are targeted towards parents, caregivers, and others who have spent time away from the workforce.

Stay-at-home Parent to become available as a job title on LinkedIn

The announcement is part of their bigger plans to allow your LinkedIn Profile to be more expressive and inclusive.

As part of the new features, LinkedIn has confirmed the following options will be available:

  • Stay-at-home mum
  • Stay-at-home dad
  • Stay-at-home parent

Further features make it easier to acknowledge employment gaps with the following options:

  • Parental leave
  • Sabbatical
  • Family care

Many of us have had our employment affected over the past year and it is important to be transparent about that.  Never conceal an employment gap and do not assume employers will understand because it’s a pandemic, be open and explain the gap in detail.

Employers are genuinely interested in what you have done during your employment gap to improve your employability such as volunteering and education.

This is where you will give yourself the best chance at securing employment and a career.
